Daylight Savings Time Is Not For Everyone!

Most people like longer days because of the daylight savings time change every year. The only thing I don’t like about it, is that it takes me a couple of weeks to adjust (feeling tired and not being able to wake up as early as I did before the time change), and its dark in the morning.

This time change may affect people with seasonal affective disorder (SAD) and they may not be jumping with joy when this time change occurs because according to some experts on the subject, morning light may be particularly important for people who are afflicted with SAD.

Early morning light also helps everyone get their circadian rhythms going. Morning light is supposed to be better than light later in the afternoon and because daylight savings time is artificially forced on us every year, it definitely throws our rhythms off somewhat. I know it does that to me and I don’t like it!

If you are interested in learning more about Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), read the article titled, Cold Weather Mood Shock: Avoid the Winter Blues by Byron J. Richards.

The excellent book, Winter Blues, Revised Edition: Everything You Need to Know to Beat Seasonal Affective Disorder by Norman E. Rosenthal MD, is an excellent resource for people who have or are interested in Seasonal Affective Disorder. To read the product description and/or purchase this book, go to my Alternative Medicine Book Shop and click on page 4. Its the last book listed.

“This step-by-step guide helps you organize your yearly schedule to anticipate seasonal changes and a special chapter for family and friends teaches loved ones effective ways to show support. Dr. Rosenthal’s expertise, warmth, and enthusiasm will inspire you to reclaim the winter months and find ways to celebrate even the darkest days of the year.”
