Personally, to keep fit, I cross-train, meaning I use various forms of exercise. Instead of joining a health club, I have a small room dedicated to working out.
My exercise room contains an elliptical machine, an Urban Rebounder (heavy duty mini-trampoline), a Malibu Pilates chair, the Total Body Gym (I love this piece of exercise equipment that uses resistance from your body weight to work out your muscles. Its a complete gym all in one small piece), an exercise inflatable ball, some Firm Direct fitness videos, and a few free weights, plus a tv for video viewing! I actually fit all of this equipment into a small room and manage to work out quite easily.
My outdoor work outs consist of 3-4 mile walks, biking on trails, and hiking, weather permitting. I really only hike in cool weather as I don’t like all the bugs and snakes lurking about!
I love to walk as it is easy and you get out in the fresh air. I like to listen to music while I walk and use my iPod with playlists I specially made for walking with my favorite tunes of course!
You can also get an inexpensive pedometer that counts every step you take. You should work up to 10,000 steps a day which equates to about 5 miles. A future post will be about the different pedometers available from the least expensive to the pricey ones. Just clip it on in the morning and by evening, you’ll be surprised by how many steps you take in a day.
I’m also planning on purchasing a Trikke, the fun fitness ride for outdoors! The Trikke looks like a scooter but because its “built on a 3-way cambering axle, the entire vehicle leans with you. You actually carve into turns on asphalt like a surfer or snowboarder would. By shifting your weight and pumping the handlebars you drive the Trikke forward to provide a fun, low-impact (for those with joint issues), full-body workout!” I’m really looking forward to adding this piece of equipment to my work out arsenal very soon. Click on the cool ad below for more information.
I prefer to mix up my work outs as it keeps me from getting bored. I used to take a lot of cardio/dance classes but as time went on and I got busier, I decided to have a room just for working out which saves me time and money!
In my next several posts I will be reviewing in more detail, the Urban Rebounder, Trikke, Malibu Pilates chair, Total Body Gym, Firm Direct fitness videos, pedometers, and heart rate watches that can do many different things.
There are so many ways to stay fit even for those who have physical issues; therefore, there should be no excuses not to do something to keep your body and mind healthy. This goes from kids to Baby Boomers and beyond!

I love yoga. At sixty, it keeps me flexible and healthy, as long as I do my practice and don’t get lazy!
