Baby Boomers :: The Me Generation

peace symbol image

Baby Boomers are anywhere between the ages of 45 and 63. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the baby boom started shortly after World War II ended. So, if you were born between 1946 to 1964, you are considered to be a Baby Boomer. There is some disagreement as to the exact start/end date of this generation, but that age range is close enough. This period represented the largest population boom in the history of the United States.

Baby Boomers were sometimes called the “Me Generation” in the 1970′s. They thought of themselves as a distinguished generation and very different from those who came before them. The “Me Generation” was really an incorrect term and it did not last long. Baby Boomers did everything in groups, from transcendental meditation to protests of all kinds.

This demographic segment is the largest and wealthiest. It is growing older as some Baby Boomers are approaching their 60′s. Approximately 69 million people are between the ages of 50 to 59, and every seven seconds, another Baby Boomer turns 50, with six thousand of those being men. Baby Boomers who are now heading toward their 60′s will go on for another seventeen years. This generation is well educated and growing older, but we still think, look, and act younger (well, most of us)!

Baby Boomers have become the single largest economic group in the United States today. Our strong influence has been quite remarkable. Baby Boomers can definitely afford to travel to Europe and other beautiful vacation spots and also buy expensive ‘toys’ (think motorcycles and big boats). This generation is the healthiest and wealthiest. We grew up truly expecting the world to get better as the years went by. Well, the years are going by (a little too fast) and now our health care before and during retirement is a major concern (or should be) for Baby Boomers who have embraced alternative methods of healing.

Currently, and during the next several years, there will be a lot of Baby Boomers getting ready to retire and this anti-aging generation is definitely interested in and preferring alternative medicine and natural ways to heal their bodies than ever before. Utilizing alternative medicine would not only allow them to live longer, but they would also be able to enjoy their retirement and play with their expensive ‘toys’ longer as well.

This generation’s decision to research, seek out, find, and use many of the natural healing remedies that our grandparents used instead of relying on drugs with their extensive and harsh side effects just goes to show you that we are “turned on” to alternative/integrative ways to make and keep ourselves in excellent health or as close to it as we can get!

So, I say, “Peace and far out man!” Keep coming back to Alternative Medicine For Baby Boomers so I can help you seek and find the best alternative and natural healing methods for you. And like I said in other posts, always get the opinion of a professional health care practitioner before you decide to follow this path!

My next posted alternative medicine article will be titled, “Alternative Medicine…Is it right for you?”
